Spring Cleaning? - 14th July 2006

Here at the Art Tribe, we are thinking about a little Spring Cleaning. "Spring?" you might say. "That's long gone what are you on about!?". Well here's the thing. Spring in our home town of Joburg is in September. It's in the Southern Hemisphere you see!

All kidding aside - we don't need any excuses to improve our store for our customers. This design is a year old and we are going to change it. Fear not - the site will not come come down - changes will be subtle and bigger ones will be made at offpeak times.

Stop Press: New Stock Buying Spree in August 2006! - 16th July 2006

We have made our list and are checking it THRICE and then we are off to Sunny South Africa to go and see Canaan, Givemore, Rose Bamato and Cheryl Bresgi who are our fabulous artists and proud members of the Art Tribe. We will also be popping in to see a new and very exciting member of the Art Tribe. We are proud to be promoting their exceptional mosaic mirrors. The range includes two types of mirror "Location" and "Journey". Each mirrors depicts landmark cities in South Africa or uses iconographic means to tell a story. Beautifully hand made and fired we know these will prove a hit with our customers.

We head out mid August and our new stock will be online in October. Stay tuned!!

It's finally here! New stock listed! - 03 December 2005
What a crazy few days we have had. Excitement levels were high when we unpacked our latest collection and we just couldn't wait to get it up on the site to share it with you. Check out the Sheryl Bresgi Glassware, Sheryl Bresgi Tableware, fabulous African Masks (impressive Tikar money Mask!), Paintings and new Bead Beastie wire sculptures. Our contemporary and traditional ethnic pieces make superb Christmas presents. We hope you enjoy buying and owning them as much as we love bringing them to you!

We flew, we bought, we are shipping! New stock arriving soon! - 31 October 2005

Well - this update has been a little while coming, but we assure you, it has been worth it. We flew out to South Africa to meet with our existing suppliers and draft a few more into the Art Tribe. Canaan and Givemore (yes that is his name!), two brothers, produce superb wire art, and have some great creations - their tortoises, pigs with wings and chilli keyrings are very cool.

Sheryl Bresgi makes a triumphant return to the Art Tribe with a dazzling array of hand decorated glass items, including a huge water or juice jug, condiment sets, jam jars, Beer glasses salad bowls and much more. Sheryl is very excited about working with the Art Tribe and we wish her the best of luck in her new premises.

We are sure we speak for all our shoppers when we wish Rose Bamato the very best after the birth of her little girl. Rose still finds time to paint her beautiful African scenes, whilst her husband handles the sales. Lastly but not least, we have our largest selection of genuine Tribal Masks to date - some exhibiting wear marks. ARRIVING LATE NOVEMBER - just in time for your Christmas shopping. Stick it in the calendar, bookmark us - but just don't miss it!

Fantastic support means we need new stock! - 07 September 2005

It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride for the ArtTribe in the last few months, but in an exhilirating and wonderful way. We must offer a big thanks to our online shop customers who are continuing to support us by buying great African art and crafts.

We also attend many craft markets and fétes where our bead beasties, wood, glass and paintings are on display. It seems event organisers can't get enough of us either!

What does this mean? It means we need to hightail it out to our stomping grounds in South Africa this month to meet with our artists and get buying! We are very excited about 3 new lines, including hand made, painted African candles, new glassware, and some fantastic contemporary African art from young South African artists. Stay tuned for more announcements about the arrival of the shipment!

2005 is Africa Year! - 04 August 2005

This year, nations of the world are trying to make a difference to the quality of life of all Africans. The United Kingdom in particular has played an important role in this, developing and co-ordinating the Live 8 concerts and with the Prime Ministers promises of increasing aid and tackling Africa's debt.

the Art Tribe is dedicated to establishing long lasting, fair trade relations with our partners. We are proud to do our bit to help provide a steady and growing source of income to these artists. Browse our catalogue to enjoy the talent, creativity and ingenuity of these artists and craftsmen.
